New House of Windsor

Prince Charles is soon to buy a small estate in Wales, I gather. Good news for the Welsh, though property prices will rise and generate flight among the locals. Apparently he hopes to use the place for holiday lets - and of course there is only one web-site to be on: Special Escapes. We will get onto the case, not least because the Prince is bound to convert the estate to organic. He is genuinely committed to the organic movement and has been willing to put his head above the parapet time and time again. Some of the media still take occasional swipes at him for it, but his support is now generally seen to be profoundly wise, given the concern about global warming.

I just happened to stumble on this blog accidentally, and found it interesting. I am very much an anti-monarchist, yet all in favour of the Prince of Wales' organic policies, and hope he will carry them out at his new Welsh home. But to be environmentally friendly entails more than being friendly towards the natural environment. In Wales we have a rather frail cultural and linguistic environment as well. Frail - yet robust. Those of us who speak Welsh are keenly aware that the capitalist property market endangers our native language and culture in that it sends property prices soaring above what local people can afford. Prince Charles went to Aberystwyth University to learn Welsh, and once declared in an Eisteddfod speech that he read Dafydd ap Gwilym in bed every night. (Dafydd ap Gwilym was the supreme love and erotic poet of the 14th century.) I doubt whether he reads Dafydd any more. Maybe his new Welsh home will regenerate his interest in Wales - not just its natural environment, but its history, culture and language.

Well done Charles. I just thought that Alistair might like to know that (to me and my wife) he looks very much like Charles... is there a family connection anywhere, perhaps in the dim and distant past?. The monarchy have always been great heroes of ours, and it would be fabulous to think there was a royal connection... has Alistair ever thought about doing a guide on 'special palaces to visit'? Im sure it would be a hit!

Maybe so, but it is very much a do as I say and not as I do attitude. This is a man who insists on a clean hand towel every time he goes to the toilet and who had his own, gas guzzling, car shipped overseas to accompany him on his travels. If he is so wise and passionate about our planet why doesn't he set an example in his own lifestyle?
